Popular actress Rashmika Mandanna, known for her work in Indian cinema, recently made headlines due to an unsettling incident. She fell victim to cybercrime when an AI-generated deepfake video of her began circulating on social media, quickly going viral. The actress, widely admired for her performances, decided to address this issue, emphasizing the importance of community action against such misuses of technology.
Rashmika took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her feelings, stating, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”
Highlighting the need for collective efforts, she continued, “Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.”

The incident caught the attention of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who promptly called for legal action to be taken against the perpetrators. Observant internet users pointed out that the original video featured Zara Patel, a British Indian with a substantial social media following.
On the professional front, Rashmika Mandanna is gearing up for her next film, Animal, where she stars alongside Ranbir Kapoor. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie features a stellar cast, including Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol, and is slated to hit the theatres on December 1.
