Producer Namit Malhotra recently spoke about the vision behind introducing global audiences to Lord Ram during a special interaction in New York as part of the international rollout of Ramayana. The event followed an earlier presentation in Los Angeles where the makers unveiled the film’s first glimpse to a select audience.
During the conversation, Malhotra explained that the team consciously chose to begin their outreach by focusing on introducing audiences, especially those outside India, to the central figure of the epic. He said, “The idea is, before we talk about the Ramayana, you must know who Ram is, or Lord Ram is. And this unit actually is the first introduction of Lord Ram to give people across the world a sense of who he is, why there's such a strong belief in him, his perspective, his idealism and values.”

Malhotra noted that understanding Lord Ram’s character and values is essential for appreciating the scale and significance of the larger narrative. According to him, this approach shaped how the makers structured the early stage of the film’s international outreach.
He said, “So that when we then talk further about Ramayana, you'll now have a greater appreciation of what and why the story of this epic continues to be so relevant, despite it going through, like my grandmother told me the story, I'm sure my grandmother's grandmother told her the story.”

Emphasising the legacy of the epic, he highlighted how the story has continued to remain alive across generations through oral tradition and cultural memory. He added, “It's something that's just been passed on generation after generation, and the enthusiasm only grows. And that's something that the Western world is completely unaware of. That's where I felt it was incredibly important that we begin by telling you who Ram or Lord Ram is.”
Malhotra further explained that the scale of the film extends far beyond a single character and includes a wide narrative universe with multiple important figures and storylines.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The first glimpse of the film, which has already been screened for select audiences in the United States, is set to be released publicly for viewers in India and across the world on April 2, while the film itself is scheduled to arrive in theatres during Diwali 2026.
