Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again voiced strong support for Dhurandhar: The Revenge, calling it a game-changing moment for the film industry. As the sequel continues to generate conversation following its release, Varma took to social media to share his latest take on its impact.
In a bold statement, he described the film as “not a film .. it is a RESET BUTTON for INDIAN CINEMA,” further adding that filmmakers would be making a mistake if they did not take note of its influence. He went on to suggest that projects going forward should be measured against Dhurandhar 2, warning that those who fail to do so “will PERISH in it’s FIRE.”

This is not the first time Varma has publicly praised the film. Shortly after its release, he had shared an extensive note highlighting how the film challenges conventional storytelling and action tropes in mainstream cinema. In earlier remarks, he referred to the film as a “HORROR” for filmmakers accustomed to formula-driven narratives, suggesting that it disrupts the long-standing reliance on exaggerated action and larger-than-life heroism.
He had also credited lead actor Ranveer Singh for presenting a more grounded and unpredictable protagonist, while applauding director Aditya Dhar for redefining cinematic storytelling. Varma’s comments indicated that the film’s approach to action and characterisation could challenge the existing “masala” formula that has dominated commercial cinema.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, serves as a sequel to the 2025 film and features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. The action thriller follows a high-stakes mission set against the backdrop of the Karachi underworld.
