“If I had a third brother it would be Ram Charan,” Salman said to me once. No wonder. Ram Charan flew to Mumbai and then to Salman’s farmhouse in Panvel to party on Salman’s birthday.
A guest from the Panvel farm informed this writer, “Salman and Ram Charan were inseparable at the party. They danced together, laughed and pulled each other’s leg and met other guests together, though neither Salman or Ram Charan touched a drop of alcohol. Salman also cribbed good-naturedly as to why Ram Charan did not give him a cameo in Peddi.”
One of Salman’s most enduring bondings is with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi whom Salman hero-worships since his teens. When Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan was shooting for his Bollywood debut Zanjeer in Mumbai, Salman had meals reached to Ram Charan’s set every day.
When Salman shot a very special guest appearance, an extended cameo, in the Chiranjeevi starrer Godfather, Salman made it very clear that he would not accept a single penny for his work. Chiranjeevi’s producers wanted to pay Salman Rs. 15-20 crores for his guest appearance in Godfather. But Salman was adamant. He told Chiranjeevi he won’t do the cameo if they insisted on paying him. Salman’s words to Chiranjeevi were, ‘If I was to ask you to do a role in my film would you charge for it?’ The question left Chiranjeevi moved and speechless.”
At the 60th birthday bash for Telugu matinee idol Chiranjeevi organized by son Ram Charan the Park Hyatt in Hyderabad, Salman Khan flew in from Mumbai on a private jet and had himself a ball. Salman danced to a medley of Chiranjeevi’s hits on stage. Chiranjeevi was thrilled to bits.
When Ram Charan was shooting for Zanjeer in Mumbai Salman made sure he didn’t feel lonely in Mumbai. The two families are very close.
On Salman’s insistence, choreographer-director Prabhu Deva had incorporated Chiranjeevi’s celebrated ‘Veena step’ in Salman’s Dabangg 3 dance number ‘Munna Badnaam Hua’ where Salman glides in the shape of the Indian musical instrument, the Veena.
Salman and Chiranjeevi have a pact: Salman would like to be part of any film that Chiranjeevi stars in.
