Rajshri Despande has shared a deeply personal reflection on her ongoing battle with Breast cancer, opening up about the emotional weight of her diagnosis and the quiet strength it takes to move forward each day. The actor, known for her work in Sacred Games, posted a heartfelt note on Instagram on March 27, describing the moment she first learned about her condition and the journey that followed.
In the post, Rajshri recalled breaking down alone outside the histopathology report centre after receiving her diagnosis. She wrote, “When I first learned about my breast cancer, I still remember breaking down all alone outside the histopathology report center in the hospital. No I couldn’t stay strong. I had no strength.”
She also addressed the common reactions she has received since sharing the news publicly, especially questions about how someone perceived as physically fit could face such a diagnosis. “Till today, when people ask me how it happened to you… you’re so fit, blah blah … honestly I don’t have an answer. Pain was not just physical but mental and emotional pain was unbearable,” she wrote.
Speaking about vulnerability and support
Rajshri described how the experience has been marked by moments of both collapse and resilience. She acknowledged the role her friends have played in supporting her through the difficult phases of treatment and uncertainty. “I did crumble many times sometimes alone and sometimes with my friends who held me up at every single step. But there were many days when I rose up and made sure I didn’t give up,” she shared.

Finding stillness in small victories
In another part of the post, Rajshri spoke about allowing herself moments of stillness instead of constantly trying to remain strong. Drawing inspiration from a poem by Mary Oliver, she described watching sparrows sit quietly near her window as the sun rises, a moment she connected with emotionally during this phase of her life.
“There are days I don’t want to have all the strength in the world. I just want to be still, like in Mary Oliver’s poem like the sparrows that sit on my window bougainvillea and stare at the sunrise with me,” she wrote.
She added that even waking up with a smile now feels like a meaningful achievement. “Can I call getting up with a happy smile an achievement? Then today I did. I achieved a smile and a hug for myself and thinking about all the people who is with me in this journey, called, messaged and gave me so much love. Tomorrow I know there will be battles to prepare for, but let today be a day of love.”
