Rajkumar Hirani calls buzz around box office collections “temporary”; says, “Earlier, we used to go for a film innocently”

Amid the theatrical run of Dunki, Rajkumar Hirani shared his thoughts on the buzz around box-office numbers and how it impacts the audience.

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has once again grabbed the attention of the moviegoers with his latest film, Dunki. While the Shah Rukh Khan starrer is still running in the theatres, the director shared his thoughts on the publicity of box-office collections and how it impacts the audience.

In an interview with ANI, Hirani asserted, “I feel it’s temporary and it is possible that people get influenced. A person can hear something negative and it is possible that he won’t go. It does have a little impact but in the longer run, that person will see it. If not here (theatre), then maybe on OTT or satellite and then his love will stay with the film.”

Explaining his thoughts, the director further added, “I still feel that a barometer to judge a film should be… The debate around a film should be more about its content than the money. These days we focus a little more on money. Earlier, we used to go for a film innocently. We used to talk about the film but now the discussion around numbers has increased.”

With that being said, it is worth mentioning here that in July this year, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh had opened up about the challenges faced in trusting box office collections due to the prevalence of inflated figures and a lack of transparency in reporting. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, the veteran trade analyst shared his concerns about the disparity between actual numbers known to producers and distributors and the information disseminated to the public, particularly through tweets and social media posts.

Coming back to Dunki, as mentioned above, it stars Shah Rukh Khan along with Taapsee Pannu, Anil Grover and Vikram Kochhar in the lead. Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani also played pivotal roles. It was released on December 21.
