Actor Rajesh Kumar recently opened up about the deep emotional bond shared by the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai team, shedding light on why the cast came together to perform the pind daan of veteran actor Satish Shah.
In an interview with Hindi Rush, Kumar recalled Shah’s remarkable resilience despite his health struggles. He said, “He was incredibly lively, full of life. He never let his physical ailments reflect in his behaviour or his work. He was on dialysis and had undergone a kidney transplant, but he never showed irritation or frustration. He lived his life king-size.”
Highlighting Shah’s outlook on life, Kumar added that the actor drew inspiration from Shammi Kapoor. “He was deeply inspired by one of our greatest actors, Shammi Kapoor, who too went through physical struggles later in life but never let it overshadow his spirit. Satish sir shared a close bond with him, and I think he consciously chose not to let his weaknesses show,” he said. Kumar further emphasized how Satish Shah shielded others from his pain, stating, “He never let anyone feel the problems he was facing. Even four days before his passing.”
The actor explained that such strength and warmth made Shah more than just a co-star to the team, prompting them to perform his pind daan as a mark of respect and emotional closure. He noted that the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai cast came together for the ritual, reflecting the deep, familial bond they continue to share even years after the show ended.
Shah, best known for his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai, remains one of Indian television’s most loved comic actors, with colleagues continuing to remember him for his spirit and generosity.
