Actor R Madhavan recently reflected on how perceptions of Indian men abroad have changed over the years, joking that today white women are more likely to approach them, assuming they are entrepreneurs rather than flirtatious.
Madhavan Shares Observations on Changing Perceptions
Madhavan spoke about this during his appearance on BookMyShow’s Unscripted YouTube show, joined by his De De Pyaar De 2 co-stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Meezaan Jafri.
He recalled, “A few years ago, when we used to go abroad and go to a bar, all the white women would look at us like we were there to hit on them. Now, it’s such that when an Indian enters a space, four white women walk up thinking we are entrepreneurs and want to say hello. I have not seen that Indian in the movies yet.”
Madhavan also spoke about his desire to collaborate with new directors, blending his years of experience with fresh and refined storytelling approaches. “The thing that is getting in my way right now is the filmyness of the industry — the way they think. They are making stories to please their mentors,” he said.
Madhavan’s Upcoming Projects
R Madhavan will soon be seen in De De Pyaar De 2, directed by Anshul Sharma. The sequel to Akiv Ali’s 2019 hit De De Pyaar De also stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezaan Jafri, and is set to release in theatres on November 14, 2025. The film continues the story of the original, produced by T-Series Films and Luv Films.
Additionally, Madhavan will feature in Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. Ranveer Singh recently unveiled the first poster, calling Madhavan’s character the “Charioteer of Karma.” The film also stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt. Dhurandhar is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 5, 2025, followed by a Netflix premiere.
