It is a known fact that Preity Zinta would be playing a leading protagonist in Tigmanshu Dhulia's Jai Ramji which also stars Arjun Rampal, Irrfan Khan and Randeep Hooda in principal roles.

Says the director whose Shagird just opened to some very good all around reviews, "Though we are yet to sign the contract and go through other formalities, in principal Preity is on. There would be new areas of acting that would be explored by her."

Stating his reason behind approaching Preity, the Haasil director says, "I needed someone who looks slightly older to Randeep and equal to Irrfan. The part is such that I it required an experienced actress to step in. Preity has been there for quite a long time and I really love her as an actress."

Though the lady has strived hard to stay away from 'bubbly characters' coming her way, seems like her intrinsic personality is not quite allowing that to happen. Tigmanshu maintains that there would be vintage Preity that one gets to see in Jai Ramji, even if it is for a short duration, when it comes to being 'chirpy and bubbly'. This means that even though she is playing a gangster in the film Jai Ramji, there would be portions that would be pretty much a deja vu for the actor as well as the audience, what with moments of 'bubbly fizz' on screen.

It is surprising though that Preity is fine with the chirpy angle being added to her character. There is a history behind that as it was around half a decade back when Preity was totally irritated with the very word 'bubbly'. So much so that it was a clear diktat to directors not to incorporate any 'bubbly quotient' to her character, something that had stuck by her side since films like Dil Se, Soldier and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega.

"The film is set in UP and would be in the mode of a realistic dramatic thriller", informs a source, "While Irrfan Khan and Randeep Hooda are the toughies in the film, Preity is no lesser and is one of the gangsters. Still, there is a bit of chirpiness and bubbly-ness to her character. Perhaps it is for the flashback portions."
