In the season of musical successes, Ramaiya Vastavaiya is all set to hit the screens this Friday. With Kumar Taurani as the producer, one did expect a musical in the offering. Now with his son Girish Kumar making his debut with the film and none less than Prabhu Dheva directing him (after delivering super-successes with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar), expectations are manifold. As one waits to see how does the newcomer rise up to the challenge and make his presence felt amidst the big daddies of the industry, Girish sounds as composed, yet excited, as a newcomer would be before his major launch.

The film is less than 50 hours away from release. Some moments to cherish indeed? After all, this is the kind of experience that a debutant has only once in his career?
Wow, you are giving me some countdown indeed. I was all fine and casual before you said this, now I am truly nervous (laughs). I am happy though with the kind of buzz that the film has managed to generate. It has all happened without us putting in much effort. Everything is happening on its own. Of course we had a very strong hunch that with the kind of music we had, we would find good visibility. It has come true.

With some good music in there, something which is indeed helping films this year, what kind of audience is your love story targeting?
It is as simple as, we want everyone to go in there and just enjoy a film. We wanted to make a film where a kid can go along with his 'daada-daadi' and have fun. Hence, there is no nudity or anything bold in there. What you see is an entertaining film where everything unfolds on a light note.

Surprising isn't it, considering the fact that Prabhu Dheva's last two Bollywood films, Rowdy Rathore and Wanted, were anything but light?
Prabhu Sir has done a really good job. I am glad that he was there for the film. When he worked with Salman and Akshay, he too was a newcomer in Bollywood at least. However he got an opportunity to prove himself there and he did that big time. Now he is giving it back for me. I strongly believe that when we pray for Saraswati, the best returns are when you give it back to her. We should be giving chance to new people and talent; this is something that Prabhu Sir has done and this is biggest contribution.

How are you looking at taking your Bollywood journey ahead though?
By having all focus and energy on Ramaiya Vastavaiya (smiles)! My film releases and that's inarguably the most important day for my career.
