Parineeti Chopra recently shared a detailed behind-the-scenes look at her experience filming Amar Singh Chamkila through a new vlog, accompanied by photos and videos from the set. The actor opened up about her most memorable moments—from singing live on camera with Diljit Dosanjh to her emotional wrap day and even her first meeting with husband Raghav Chadha. For Parineeti, the Imtiaz Ali directorial became one of the most unique and personal projects of her career.

“Diljit is a rockstar, and I am a wannabe singer”
Parineeti recalled how Imtiaz Ali kept the set theatre-like, encouraging both actors to perform with raw energy. Instead of lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks, Parineeti and Diljit sang live during takes.
“We never lip-synced; we actually sang on set. The mics we wore recorded our real vocals. Nothing was dubbed later in a studio,” she said, adding that the process was challenging but creatively rewarding.
She also shared a playful moment with Diljit, writing that he joked, “You become Rihanna.” She added, “I tried acting like Rihanna, and it was a total flop. Diljit was playing Chamkila, and we were both pretending to be cool. The whole set was laughing.”
How Chamkila led Parineeti to Raghav Chadha
The film also held sentimental value because it played an unexpected role in Parineeti’s personal life. She revealed that her first connection with Raghav Chadha happened through the film.
When Imtiaz Ali travelled to Punjab for shoot planning, he met Raghav, who was then the local MP responsible for approvals and logistics. Parineeti shared, “We didn’t know each other at that time. When the shoot happened in Punjab in 2023, that’s when I met Raghav. We met, we started dating, and even today we both say that somewhere, Chamkila played a part in bringing us together.”
The emotional wrap day
Parineeti recalled feeling overwhelmed after completing her final shot. Sharing a photo from the wrap celebration, she said, “It was a spiritual experience. After the last song, Imtiaz sir hugged me and said such beautiful things. I cried a lot. Diljit teased me, and everyone became emotional. It truly felt like a family parting ways.”
The toughest moment: filming the assassination scene
Among all the memorable days on set, the assassination sequence remained the most difficult for Parineeti. She explained that acting dead was far more challenging than expected.
“Imtiaz sir wanted artistic, slow-motion shots capturing the still expressions of Chamkila and Amarjot. It was extremely tough—you can’t blink, you have to keep your eyes open, you can’t breathe normally, and you have to stay completely still,” she said.
The scene required multiple takes. “Someone’s eye would blink, or someone would twitch, and we had to start again. When I finally saw the scene on the monitor, I had goosebumps. Imtiaz sir captured it so beautifully.”
Looking their “worst” but still posing between takes
Parineeti revealed that she gained 16 kilos for the role, while Diljit sported a deep tan. Both actors often felt physically uncomfortable, which led to some humorous behind-the-scenes moments.
“We were so uncomfortable with how we looked that whenever we got a few free seconds, we would start doing photoshoots. There are so many photos where we look like Chamkila and Amarjot, but behave like Parineeti and Diljit trying to act glam. The crew used to laugh at us.”
