Pankaj Jha, known for his portrayal of Vidhayak Ji in Panchayat, recently shared his perspective on the dynamics of success in Bollywood. In an interview with Digital Commentary, Pankaj offered candid remarks on the industry's approach to popularity and the role of audience preference.

Jha's comments stemmed from a discussion about the delayed recognition of talented actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pankaj Tripathi. He suggested that acting prowess isn't always the sole determinant of fame, pointing out instances of commercially successful actors who might not possess the same level of dialogue delivery skills.

"It is a tough job to say who is an actor and who isn't," Pankaj stated. "Here, the one who isn't an actor is the most popular." Highlighting the prevalence of big-budget films, he further commented, "Someone asked me my thoughts on the larger-than-life movies that are mounted on huge budgets and mint crores of rupees. I said it only reflects the IQ of our country, its level."

He elaborated on his views regarding audience preferences, suggesting a potential disconnect between critical acclaim and commercial success. "The IQ of our Indian audience is definitely low, just look at Hindi cinema and you’d know. The ones who can’t say one dialogue, who have never been able to say one dialogue, woh star bane hue hai bhai (they are the stars)," he remarked.

Pankaj went on to express his reservations about the industry's practice of categorizing actors based on box office performance. "The ones whose you names you took, there are more talented people than them in the industry but it is all about getting that opportunity," he added.

Pankaj Jha is a seasoned actor who has appeared in a diverse range of projects, including Anurag Kashyap's films Gulaal, Black Friday, Monsoon Wedding, and the recent third season of Panchayat on Prime Video.
