A while back a new wave had caught on with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge gripping the west. Well now starting a new trend that not only promotes his soon to release film, but also helps spread social awareness about menstrual cycles, is Akshay Kumar’s #PadMan Challenge. The actor’s, whose next release is Pad Man, took to social networking sites challenging fellow industry folks to share images of themselves posing with pads. It seems like the actor has received a lot of support. Now the latest celebs to join the cause are none other than Alia Bhatt and Shabana Azmi.

Taking to twitter Alia Bhatt who was challenged by Akshay Kumar shared an image of her holding a pad. She added, “Just hanging around in the gym.. with a pad :) no biggie! Thank you @akshaykumar for the challenge.. I shall challenge my fellow gym-ers @YasminBodyImage @Sophie_Choudry & @impoornapatel #PadManChallenge”.

Taking up the challenge after Alia Bhatt were Sophie Choudry, Poorna Patel and Yasmin Karachiwala, who shared an image of themselves, competing it. They also challenged Bipasha Basu Grover, Huma Qureshi, Masba Gupta, Ayush Sharma, Karan Tacker, Freddy Daruwala, Preity Zinta, Evelyn Sharma and Shamita Shetty. Apart from them, another person to join the campaign was veteran actress Shabana Azmi who took to the micro blogging site sharing an image completing the Pad Man challenge.

As for the film itself, Pad Man that stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte is directed by R. Balki. Produced by Twinkle Khanna the film is slated to hit screens on February 9.
