After winning many accolades, ‘Naatu Naatu’ bagged a nomination at the Oscars 2023. When the 95th Academy Awards kick started, host Jimmy Kimmel introduced the film RRR but ended up mistakenly addressing it as a ‘Bollywood’ film which did not go down well with social media users. Many of them took to the platform to talk about their disappointment and to slam Jimmy for lack of research.

In a video that has been going viral on social media platforms, Jimmy Kimmel is seen introducing ‘Naatu Naatu’ and RRR to the audience, as he is interrupted by a troupe of dancers dancing on the beats of the Telugu song. He said, "This year we are not gonna play you off stage instead we have a group of performers from the movie RRR who are going to dance you offstage." Followed by this, he went on to refer to RRR as a ‘Bollywood film’. This video was posted by many of the social media users as they lashed out on Jimmy Kimmel on Twitter. One of them said, “I don’t need to hear Jimmy Kimmel incorrectly call RRR a bollywood movie. What I need is to see GDT do the Naatu”.

Another one dropped a comment saying, “Doesn't the dumb **** Jimmy Kimmel hosting the Oscars not research about the films? He said ‘Naatu Naatu’ song is Bollywood. These idiots think every Indian film is Bollywood.” One of the comments read, “Jimmy saying bollywood just pissed me off” whereas another user expressed, “Jimmy Kimmel calling #RRRMovie a Bollywood film breaks my heart.” “Its not a bollywood song Jimmy. Its a Telgu song and There is nothing called Bollywood, its Hindi movies,” added one more. “A few minutes into the Oscars and they already have a funny bit about #RRR! Although points lost because imho Jimmy Kimmel ****ed up the joke by calling it a Bollywood movie,” stated a user.

RRR is a Telugu period drama set in the pre-Independence era that revolves around a unique bond that is formed between an honest and sincere police officer serving the British Raj and a revolutionary who is fearless to even fight the government to protect his dear ones. The film’s song ‘Naatu Naatu’ , which is picturized on the leading men Ram Charan and Jr NTR and composed by MM Keeravani, won the Oscars 2023 in the Best Original Song category, creating history for Indian cinema and its global reach.
