Producer Nikhil Dwivedi has addressed the recent dispute between actor Ranveer Singh and FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees), stating that contractual disagreements fall under the jurisdiction of the courts and questioning whether associations are legally permitted to direct workers not to collaborate with a particular actor or producer.
Dwivedi made these remarks ahead of the release of his film Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Bobby Deol.
“There are more than 150 people who work on a film, and one can get into arguments with any of them at any time. There are film associations and bodies as well, which are very important because representation matters. The association says that it can bring an actor and a producer together to discuss and resolve their issues, but if that still does not happen, they ask them to take the matter to court. They try their best, but beyond a point, they cannot do anything more about it,” said Dwivedi.
“Any contractual dispute can only be addressed in the Courts of India, which is why people approach the courts. However, if an association is asking people not to work with a particular actor or producer, I do not know whether they are legally allowed to do so. The Bombay High Court’s ruling on whether such associations have that jurisdiction had already come in 2017-18, but if they are still making such announcements, I do not know whether they are aware of it,” he added.
Bandar stars Bobby Deol as Sameer Mehra, a former pop icon accused of sexual assault, whose story unfolds against the backdrop of a courtroom battle and intense media scrutiny.
The film is written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, who previously wrote Paatal Lok, Kohra, and Udta Punjab.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Bandar is produced by Nikhil Dwivedi under Saffron Magicworks in association with Zee Studios. The film releases in cinemas worldwide on June 5, 2026.
