Filmmaker Aditya Kripalani recently unveiled the trailer of his upcoming film Main Actor Nahin Hoon, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Chitrangada Satarupa in lead roles. The film is slated for a theatrical release across India on May 8, 2026.
Written, directed, and produced by Kripalani, the project is co-produced by Sweta Chhabria Kripalani under Mumba Devi Motion Pictures and Faizuddin Siddiqui of Side Hero Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., with Platoon One Films handling distribution.
Sharing his thoughts on the film, Aditya Kripalani said, “We are really eager to share this film as a community in cinemas. It’s a film that is for everyone irrespective of belief systems. It’s also finally a film about everyday life and feels like a story of people that could’ve been us.”
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui also spoke about the film’s core theme, stating, “Our film breaks barriers between people and asks all to embrace the ‘other’ no matter what we believe. In this case it’s a banker and an artist. The film explore a belief that labels divide us and humanity unities us. That’s the core of this film.”
The narrative follows Mouni, played by Chitrangada Satarupa, a struggling actor in Mumbai, who connects with Adnan Baig, a recently retired banker portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, based in Frankfurt. What begins as an online acting session evolves into a deeper exchange, as the two characters navigate personal struggles and confront unresolved emotions over the course of a day through video calls.
One of the film’s key highlights is its experimental production approach. Main Actor Nahin Hoon is positioned as the first Indian film to be shot live across two countries simultaneously over 28 days. Both actors performed in real time via video calls, with separate crews filming in India and Germany, navigating challenges such as differing weather conditions and a 4.5-hour time gap.
The film has already had a notable run at international film festivals. Nawazuddin Siddiqui won Best Actor at the 25th New York Indian Film Festival, while Chitrangada Satarupa received Best Actor (Female). Aditya Kripalani was honoured with the Best Director (Jury) award at the DC South Asian Film Festival.
Following its India release, Main Actor Nahin Hoon is also expected to release in Germany.
