Navya Naveli Nanda believes that empowerment begins with personal choice and staying true to one’s own goals. In a recent interview, she spoke about the pressures young women often face and the importance of defining success on their own terms.
During an interaction with Variety India, Navya opened up about how societal expectations can shape the lives of many women, from appearance to behaviour and the roles they are expected to play both at home and in professional spaces.
“Yeah, I think there's a lot of pressure in general, I think for young women, whether it's from the way that we look to what we do to, you know, certain roles that we play in society or within families, even in our professional lives,” she said.
Navya explained that women often find themselves juggling multiple expectations placed upon them by society. From family responsibilities to professional ambitions, managing these different roles can become overwhelming when people constantly measure themselves against what others expect.
She also recalled a piece of advice from her grandmother, veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, which continues to guide her perspective on life and empowerment.
“If we start looking at what people expect of us, we forget what we want from ourselves,” she said, remembering the lesson her naani shared with her.
For Navya, this advice perfectly captures what empowerment truly means. She believes that real freedom lies in making choices independently and accepting that it is not always possible to give equal attention to every role every single day.
“That's also what I think empowerment means, which is the freedom to make your own choices on your own terms.”
Navya Naveli Nanda, who is also known as the granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, has steadily built her own identity as a podcaster, entrepreneur, and student. Through her work and public conversations, she continues to encourage young women to embrace authenticity and avoid conforming to societal expectations, especially in the age of social media where comparisons often run high.
