Vivek Agnihotri's film The Kashmir Files which was released in theatres earlier this year surprised everyone with its box office performance. The film which was not heavily promoted worked because of strong word-of-mouth publicity. While some appreciated the movie, some cricitised its political motive.
The film was based on the Kashmir exodus of the early 1990s. Recently, senior actor Naseeruddin Shah spoke about the film while he was talking about actors and filmmakers participating in projects perceived to be nationalistic.
Speaking to NDTV about The Kashmir Files, the actor called the film ‘an almost fictionalised version of the suffering of Kashmiri Hindus'. He also said that the government was promoting the film.
Meanwhile, Vivek Agnihotri shared a snippet of Shah speaking in the interview about the repercussions of talking about genocide. "I agree with this. You are indeed abused and penalised for talking about Kashmiri Hindu Genocide in your own country," he wrote sharing the snippet.

Further, when asked why the three Khans of Bollywood (Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan) often maintain silence on the political affairs of the country, Shah said, "I cannot speak for them. I am not in the position they are in. I feel they think they would be risking too much. But then, I don’t know how they explain to their own conscience about it. But I think they are in a position where they have too much to lose."
