Namashi Chakraborty speaks about father Mithun Chakraborty starrer Gunda; says, “He shouldn’t have done that film” : Bollywood News

Despite being a commercial failure upon its release, Gunda became a pop culture phenomenon over the years, with fans praising its unique style and campy humour. The film's resurgence in popularity has been fuelled in part by social media, where users have shared clips and memes of the movie, often with humorous captions. Hence, it has become those films which are impossible to forget when it comes to Mithun Chakraborty’s filmography. However, his son Namashi Chakraborty believes his father shouldn't have done this "infamous film."

It all happened during his recent interview with ETimes, where the portal asked him to name one film he wished his father hadn’t done. He said, “I think Gunda is a film which is so infamous. It is so notorious for its interesting content. Today’s generation and a lot of people think my dad is only capable of doing films like that. It became too infamous, so bad, it’s good. I mean I love the film, it’s hilarious but given his stature, he shouldn’t have done that film.”

For the unversed, written by Bashir Babbar and directed by Kanti Shah, Gunda also featured Mukesh Rishi and Shakti Kapoor in supporting roles. It was released in 1998.

Coming back to Namashi, he will be making his acting debut with the upcoming film, Bad Boy. Mithun will make a special appearance in one of the film’s songs titled ‘Janabe Ali’. Helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi, it also stars Johny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Darshan Jariwala and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal roles. Bad Boy is produced by Anjum Qureshi and Sajid Qureshi under the banner, Inbox Pictures and is scheduled to release theatrically on April 28, 2023.
