Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar The Revenge continues its strong theatrical run while drawing appreciation from across the film industry. The latest filmmaker to respond to the film is Nag Ashwin, who highlighted the emotional depth beneath its large-scale action spectacle.
Sharing his thoughts on Instagram Stories, Nag Ashwin praised both the storytelling and performances in the sequel, which now ranks among India’s biggest box office successes. “The genius of Aditya Dhar really shines in the beginning and ending of Dhurandhar 2. Beyond all the action and explosion, it is the mother's hug and the longing for that hug that hit hardest,” he wrote.
He also applauded Ranveer Singh’s performance, noting the actor’s ability to transform across roles. “Ranveer Singh always vanishing into his roles. Always raising the bar. Congratulations to the team for becoming India’s highest grossing film.”
With its current box office performance, Dhurandhar The Revenge stands just behind Pushpa 2: The Rule and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in the list of the highest-grossing Indian films. The film’s commercial success has been accompanied by sustained audience engagement and strong industry reactions.
The story began with a grounded spy narrative
The franchise began with Dhurandhar, a spy thriller set in Pakistan in the early 2000s. The film followed an Indian operative played by Ranveer Singh as he infiltrated gang networks in Karachi’s Lyari area during a covert mission.
The first installment drew inspiration from real incidents. Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt portrayed characters believed to be inspired by real individuals connected to the narrative backdrop.
A connection through Kalki 2898 AD
Nag Ashwin’s appreciation also drew attention because of his recent collaboration with Deepika Padukone, who is married to Ranveer Singh. The actor had worked with her on Kalki 2898 AD. However, she did not continue with the second installment of the franchise. The sequel recently went on floors in Hyderabad with Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan joining the shoot.
