Mrunal Thakur opens up on auditioning for Priyanka Chopra Jonas starrer Jai Gangaajal : Bollywood News

Mrunal Thakur will soon be seen in the role of an honest and clever cop in the upcoming thriller Gumraah alongside Aditya Roy Kapur. The film marks many firsts for the leading stars since the actress will be seen in the role of a police officer for the first time whereas Aditya will be debuting in a double role. While talking about her experience of shooting for the film, the actress recalled the first time she auditioned for the role of a police officer and it was for Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

In a recent interview, Mrunal Thakur recalled her audition for Jai Gangaajal, confessing that she was happy to see a seasoned actress like Priyanka Chopra Jonas to essay the powerful protagonist. She mentioned that she wasn’t ready to play such a strong character in that phase of her career. At an event, Mrunal opened up about not bagging Jai Gangaajal to News18 saying, "What she did in the movie, maybe I wouldn’t have been able to do at that point. I wasn’t ready."

In yet another interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actress also opened up about how this was her first film where she had a career. She said, “The moment you wear the uniform you feel powerful. But obviously I have never worn a uniform before, so I didn't know what it feels like to be a cop. In the past, I have played roles which is always about relationships - either like a daughter, wife, or lover. But for the first I was at a job.”

Some of her past Hindi films include Love Sonia, Super 30, Jersey, among others. Mrunal recently also made her South debut with the popular romantic drama Sita Ramam, co-starring Dulquer Salmaan and Rashmika Mandanna.

As for Gumraah, the film is an official remake of the Tamil film Thadam and is directed by Vardhan Ketkar. The thriller will hit the big screens on April 7.
