Morarji Desai’s ‘urine therapy’ dialogue removed from the final cut of Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Mission Majnu : Bollywood News

Mission Majnu, starring Sidharth Malhotra, was released on Netflix on Friday, January 20 and has been praised for its plot and performances. It is set in the 1970s and inspired by true events related to the tensions between India and Pakistan. As a result, some real-life characters can also be seen in the film like India's Morarji Desai, Indira Gandhi, Pakistan's General Zia-Ul-Haq, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, etc

Bollywood Hungama has now learnt that a dialogue, uttered by Avijit Dutt about urine therapy, has been removed. A source told Bollywood Hungama, "Avijit Dutt essays the role of Morarji Desai. Mr Desai was known to drink his own urine and attributed his longevity due to this habit. In the film, there is a dialogue wherein he recommends General Zia Ul Haq to practice yoga and urine therapy for the betterment of his health."

The source continued, "In the final cut, however, while the yoga dialogue has been retained, the dialogue on urine therapy has been axed very smartly. The makers had added it just as a passing reference and didn't intend to insult or degrade any real life Indian person with any dialogue or scene in the film. But in the times we are living in, anything can go viral on social media and lead to trolling. So probably, keeping this factor in mind, it must have been removed from the film."

Besides Sidharth Malhotra, Avijit Dutt and Ashwath Bhatt, Mission Majnu also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Sharib Hashmi, Zakir Hussain, Kumud Mishra and Shishir Sharma. Interestingly, while Morarji Desai and General Zia Ul Haq have been mentioned, the characters based on Indira Gandhi and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto have not been named. In the end credits, Rajit Kapur is credited to have played ‘Pakistan Prime Minister’ while Avantika Akerkar is credited to have played ‘Madam Prime Minister’.
