Merry Christmas press conference: Sanjay Kapoor jokes why he’s so fit: “Boney eats it all. Anil Kapoor and I don’t get to eat anything”; also reveals Sriram Raghavan’s touching gesture when he came on board

2024 is here and the first big Hindi release will be Merry Christmas. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, it stars Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi along with several other actors like Radhika Apte, Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, etc. The press conference of the film was held today and Sanjay Kapoor was in his element as he answered queries of the media and the emcee.

Sanjay raised laughs with his first reply as he jokingly blamed brother Boney Kapoor for eating away all the food in the house, due to which he and Anil Kapoor were able to remain fit. He said, “There’s no magic. Whatever is made, Boney eats it all. Anil and I don’t get to eat anything!”

Sanjay Kapoor then talked about his association with producer Ramesh Taurani of Tips saying, “Our journey has been very interesting. I was a part of the first picture that he financed, Beqabu (1996). I was also a part of the first film that he produced, Auzaar (1997). I was also a part of Raja (1995), which I believe was one of his biggest hits as a music company. Now, I am a part of Merry Christmas, and it’s going to be even bigger!”

Sanjay Kapoor further said, “When Sriram sir called me to his office, I was sitting in my car and wondering, ‘I hope my role is good enough. Otherwise, how will I say no to him?’. This is because I always wanted to work with him. And the way he narrates, he doesn’t give you the full thing. He narrates in just 20 minutes. I realized that I had something to do. I was very happy.”

Sanjay Kapoor touched everyone as he narrated, “When I agreed to do the film, Sriram sir said ‘Just a minute’. He went to all the ADs and told them, ‘Sanjay has said yes to the film’. That was the most special moment of doing this film for me.”

A journalist asked whether he enjoys doing negative and grey roles, considering his recent films. Sanjay replied, “As Vijay Sethupathi sir just said, you get to do a lot more when you play a negative or a grey role, which you can’t do in real life. As an actor, you need to be happy about what you are doing. Positive or negative should not matter. Agar aapki story acchi hai, aapka role accha hai, that’s important. An actor’s job is to do what the director wants him to do. That’s what I try to do. I am enjoying what I am doing. That’s the reason I am getting to work with some great directors and great actors.”

He ended his answer by saying, “In Merry Christmas, too, my role is something different. I won’t say if it’s grey, black or green. Colour ka mujhe pata nahin! But it’s surely very interesting.”
