Over the years, Taapsee Pannu has carved a niche for herself in the film industry with her unconventional ventures. In a recent interview, she shed light on how to find the right kind of scripts and during the same, she unveiled an instance where she went out of her way to get a script, Taapsee revealed how she came across the script for Saand Ki Ankh. She opened about her desire to be part of a script where two leading ladies share the same space, steering the narrative together. It was in this pursuit that she stumbled upon the script for the film.
Speaking about the reason behind her looking for a script with two leading ladies, Taapsee Pannu said, “Mere age group ke liye nahi banni thi paar mujhe aisi film karne ka mann tha jo do ladkiyan saath mein karein and do ladkiyan matlab (for example, Saandh Ki Aankh. I know that the film was not made for my age group but I wanted to do a role where two women are working… two women as in) two leading ladies, not like one main and one supporting kyunki yeh mana jaata tha ki do ladkiyan saath mein mainstream cinema type nahi karte the, it’s always insecurity ho jaata hain aur yeh sab. Mujhe matlab acting karne ka shaukh hain aur mujhe koi insecurity nahi hain koi aur actor ko leke ki woh mera screen space kha jayegi ya kha jayega. Main bohot secure hoon as an actor. Aur main chahti thi ki main koi is tarah ki script karru jiske andar hum equal ho aur saath mein shoulder kar rahe hain responsibility film ki, toh issiliye (because it is believed that two female stars cannot work together in cinema, it leads to insecurities etc. However, I am someone who is only interested in pursuing acting. I don’t feel insecure about another actor or actress taking away my screen space. I am a pretty secure actor that way. That’s why I was on a lookout for such a script where two of us can shoulder the responsibility of a film together, that’s why) I went out of my way to hunt for such a script”.
She went on to add, “Tab mujhe patta chala ki Tushar ke pass ek script hain jo do auraton ki hain, lekin mujhe pata nahi tha ke do buddhi auratein hein. Toh mujhe pata chala tha ke do auraton ki kahani hain. Toh main gayi usse milne ke liye aur usne milte hi mujhse kaha ki meri kahani toh do budhi auraton ke baare mein hain, toh maine kaha ‘but you tell me main kar sakti hu ki nahi. Agar tumhe lagta hain ki hum prosthetics se kar sakte hain, (That’s when I came to know that Tushar had a script which featured two leading women but didn’t know they were supposed to be senior citizen characters. Even when I got to know later, I still went ahead and approached him for the role. He did tell me that the two women are expected to be quite old, but I was like, ‘Just tell me if I can do it or no’. I also suggested that if we want we can make use of prosthetics but) I still would want to do it. Kyunki mein ek do jagah gayi thi pehle aur maine script bhi padhi thi par mujhe maza nahi aya (I had been to a few places before approaching him but did not like anything that I saw)
She futher added, “Mujhe jo bhi script mili hai, woh hunt karke hi mili hai. Mujhe kehna padta hai ki kisiko chahiye toh do, kisi ke paas hain toh batao. Mujhe script acche lagti hain koi, toh mujhe ye effort karna padta hain kyuki mere career mein mera koi godfather nahi hain jo yeh karega. (Whatever script I have got by far, I have always had to hunt for it. I had to go and tell everyone asking them if they have anything then to let me know. If I like a script, I have to make an effort for it because I don’t have a godfather in this industry who can take care of these things).”
