Medha Shankr may have earned widespread acclaim for her understated and grounded performance in 12th Fail, but the actress says romance remains her favourite genre, both on screen and in real life. Having recently showcased a different side of herself in the romantic comedy Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, Medha revealed that she naturally gravitates towards love stories and is also making space for her personal life alongside her professional ambitions.
“I am a very romantic person. I love romance. So, apart from the good work that I am looking forward to doing, I must say that I am also giving equal importance to my personal life this year. Of course, there’s nothing happening in my personal life and so I want to focus on it,” she said. The actress also spoke about the kind of romantic films she enjoys watching, admitting that she prefers stories that blend romance with a touch of emotional depth. “I really like The Holiday. It’s such a comfort film. I also like Love & Other Drugs. I like a little melancholy in my romantic comedy films,” she shares.
While audiences know her primarily as an actor, Medha recently explored a different avenue when she turned showstopper for designer Suneet Varma at the Bombay Times Fashion Week earlier this year. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted that walking the runway alongside professional models was both exciting and challenging. “To walk alongside models who have done this for a very long time is not easy. So, there was pressure, but it was fun, too and I loved the experience,” she admitted.
Medha was last seen in Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, the romantic comedy directed by Prasshant Jha and produced by Soundrya Production and Zee Studios. The film, which serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2020 release Ginny Weds Sunny, stars Avinash Tiwary alongside Medha Shankr.
The story follows a solitary wrestler who begins to reassess his life when an independent young woman unexpectedly enters his world and challenges his long-held beliefs. Released theatrically on April 24, 2026, the film marked a notable shift in Medha’s filmography, allowing her to move from the realism of 12th Fail to a lighter, more romantic space.
With a growing body of work and a willingness to explore different genres, Medha Shankr appears to be embracing both personal and professional growth as she looks ahead to the next phase of her career.
