Manoj Bajpayee reacts on Bandaa getting legal notice from Asaram Bapu; says, “We have to be truthful to all those incidents” : Bollywood News

Readers may recall that Bollywood Hungama was among the first ones to report about the makers of Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai receiving a legal notice. For the unversed, the charitable trust of the rape convict Asaram sent a legal notice to the actor and makers for allegedly modelling the character of the villain in the movie on the convict. Recently, Manoj Bajpayee reacted to the same and expressed his views on the matter.

While talking to PTI, the critically acclaimed actor asserted, “The case is already in the public domain and the verdict is out... We have to be truthful to all those incidents that have happened. Also in our film, the most important thing is how well we treat the victim.”

Explaining the process of making the ZEE5 film, Bajpayee said, “We had to be very sensitive to the girl who gathered the courage to fight the big ones. And for five years give testimony and evidence, and say her side of the story without fearing humiliation, without fearing for her life. Also, we had to be sensitive not only to the character but also to the actor who is playing the role. She herself is 15-16 years old, and she has given a remarkable performance.”

Speaking of the legal notice, the charitable trust of Asaram has also sent the notice to the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). They urged the CBFC to stall the release of the movie and withdraw its trailer from the internet. The notice mentioned that Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai will cause immense “mental agony”, “humiliation” and “embarrassment” to Asaram and his devotees.

Coming back to the film, it is slated to start streaming on ZEE5 from May 23.
