Manisha Koirala, who made a strong comeback with Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, recently opened up about a phase in her career when she grew bored of acting. Despite her feelings, Dimple Kapadia encouraged her to enjoy the craft, though Koirala felt that Kapadia couldn't fully understand her perspective at the time.
Manisha Koirala recalls Dimple Kapadia’s valuable advice when she admitted being ‘bored of acting’: “Can’t she understand I am bored? My inner conversation was different”In a candid conversation with ANI, Manisha Koirala shared a time in her career when she felt disillusioned with acting and was bored with her profession. She confided in Dimple Kapadia, who was working with her on a film at the time, expressing her frustrations.
Koirala shared, “I told her, ‘I am bored of acting.’ And she said, ‘You better enjoy it because this is not going to last forever.’ And such great advice she gave me. But, at that point in time, I was like, ‘Yeh kya keh rahi hai’ (What is she even saying?) Can't she understand I am bored?' My inner conversation was different.”
Manisha Koirala later reflected on Dimple Kapadia’s advice and understood its true meaning and intention. She realized that the veteran actress was urging her to appreciate the craft, especially during moments when the glitz of fame can feel overwhelming. Koirala explained that the phase of her life when she felt bored of acting was marked by working long, exhausting shifts on multiple films each day. This grueling schedule left her feeling drained, which contributed to her disillusionment with the profession.
Manisha Koirala shared that during her peak career years, her work schedule was incredibly demanding. Her day would start with 2 to 3 hours spent on makeup, followed by three shifts for different movies. Unlike today, she didn’t have weekends off or any breaks in between. The relentless pace and exhaustion gradually led to a loss of interest in her profession at the time, making her feel disconnected from her passion for acting.
On the work front, Manisha Koirala made her Bollywood debut with Saudagar in 1992 and went on to become one of the most beloved actresses of the 90s, known for her roles in films like Dil Se, Khamoshi: The Musical, Company, 1942: A Love Story, and Akele Hum Akele Tum. In 2012, she was diagnosed with cancer and took a break from acting to focus on her recovery. After successfully overcoming her health battle, she returned to the screen, delivering a remarkable performance as the iconic actress Nargis in Sanju (2018), alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
