Singer Madhubanti Bagchi recently spoke about her experience of recording the reimagined version of the iconic track ‘Ramba Ho’ for the film Dhurandhar, revealing that she was initially hesitant to take on the song because of its legacy.

Bagchi shared the anecdote during the Women In Music Roundtable 2026 organised by Fever FM and powered by Amazon Music. The discussion, moderated by Rotalks, brought together several female artists including Lisa Mishra, Raja Kumari, Rashmeet Kaur and lyricist Kausar Munir, to talk about their journeys and the challenges women face in the music industry.
During the conversation, Bagchi reflected on the success of Dhurandhar and credited the film’s creative leadership for shaping its music. “You can see passion, and Shashwat is very passionate about his work. Aditya Dhar’s leadership means a lot. In a film environment, a captain’s role matters a lot,” she said.
She further noted that a clear creative direction often determines whether a film album connects with audiences. “That’s the reason why a lot of films fail, a lot of albums fail, because there is no one single direction. It’s not just about one promotional song; it should be the sole connection to the story we are trying to tell and navigate along the way. The fact that leadership really worked on this one,” she added.
Bagchi also spoke about recording the recreated version of ‘Ramba Ho’, originally sung by Usha Uthup. She admitted that the idea of performing the legendary track initially made her nervous. “When 'Ramba Ho' was made, I remember we were recording one day before the music album launch and Shashwat told me that this is a very crucial song and it comes at a very bizarre point in the film where you wouldn’t expect a 'Ramba Ho',” she recalled.
The singer said her hesitation grew because of the song’s legacy. “Initially, I was very hesitant to sing 'Ramba Ho,' because it’s such a legendary song. I was extremely scared of underperforming. The standards were so high because it’s a Usha Didi song and it’s somewhere at the top,” she said.
What convinced her eventually was the way the song was integrated into the film’s narrative. According to Bagchi, the sequence places the track during a high-intensity action scene. “When they showed me the visuals, it came at a gunfight sequence, and it was so cool. The music starts from the older version and transcends into the newer version,” she explained. Recalling the recording session, Bagchi said director Aditya Dhar gave her an unusual direction for the performance. “That day, Aditya was also like, sing it as it should be in a gun fight sequence,” she said.
The Women In Music Roundtable also saw participants discussing broader issues within the music industry, including representation, opportunities for female performers and the evolving role of playback singing in contemporary cinema.
