The opening night of the much-awaited five-day fashion gala, Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 kickstarted with feted designer Anita Dongre show at the plush suburban hotel, ITC Grand Central. With the who’s who of the fashion fraternity turning up to witness the poetic flow of Dongre’s sartorial sensibilities, the sensational and couple of the moment, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput were the apt muses. This marks the runway debut of Mira Rajput who has been regaling our senses with her glamorous appearances. The opening night also witnessed the unveiling of a new fabric called R | Elan from Reliance Industries whose engineered fibres promise richer colours and more fluidity. Renewing their marriage vows, the duo was all smiles as they walked down the lush lawns with two adorable munchkins showering flowers on them.
Anita Dongre’s penchant to dabble into handicrafts and handloom textiles is well known and Anita Dongre Grassroots is a testimony to the same endeavour. The theme for this year’s grandiose collection was titled ‘Songs of Summer’ that essentially narrated a magical summer wedding tale. The collection featured hand-woven silks and cottons crafted in Benares with floral patterns and floaty shapes. The designer also included traditional as well as contemporary silhouettes through an amalgamation of jumpsuits, wrap tops, jackets, crop tops with lehengas and sarees. The embroidery in focus was Zardosi, and Gottapatti embellishments that are also the key elements of bridal wear. The premise for the show was best described by the brand as, “In the hush of a summer garden, the bride steps onto an aisle of verdant nature, tall beautiful trees swaying their branches to her rhythm. Flowers, butterflies and birds sing words of deep ethereal love. Fireflies light up her path towards a bright new future.” Here is a closer look at Shahid Kapoor and Mira Raput’s smashing runway look.

Style Cues from Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput
While bright bridal colours may have their charm, muted florals and easy pastel shades have been slowly paving their way into Indian weddings. With the seamless blending of traditional with contemporary, these ensembles befit the minimalist bride and groom.
On the professional front, Shahid Kapoor is basking in the glory of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmaavat that released last week. He is all set to begin filming for Batti Gul Meter Chalu with Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam.
