The release of Laila Majnu (2018) in Kashmir turned out to be successful with shows running house full in Inox Srinagar. This prompted the makers and PVR Inox to re-release the love saga in 75 screens across the country tomorrow, August 9. A press conference was held today in Mumbai to talk about the film’s re-release in the presence of actors Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwari, director Sajid Ali, presenter Imtiaz Ali, producer Preety Ali and Ajay Bijli, Executive Director, PVR Inox.
Triptii Dimri said, “It’s a very special moment for all of us sitting here. Six years ago, Laila Majnu was released. Today, I was standing outside with everyone and it reminded me of the event held to launch the trailer of our film in 2018. We had the same butterflies in our stomachs today that we did then! We also have the same level of nervousness and excitement.”
She added, “I have told this many times to Sajid sir, but he never believed it. But the fact is there has not been a single day when I haven’t received a message on my social media handles for Laila Majnu! The kind of love we have received for this film is amazing. When we announced that Laila Majnu would be released in Kashmir, I was flooded with messages asking why is the film not being released in Delhi or Mumbai. Then yesterday, I announced that it's releasing everywhere in India, and everyone was overjoyed. I’d like to thank the audience as this was possible only because of their love.”
Avinash Tiwary said, “I remember when Laila Majnu was released, Imtiaz sir told me, ‘A film is for life. If it is any good, it’ll keep finding its audience’. When he said that, I did not believe him kyunki meri film toh nahin chal rahi thi theatre mein (laughs)! But for the past six years, the amount of love and credibility we have earned from the audience gave us an indication that they want to go out and scream to the world, ‘Please watch this film, it’s beautiful’. And they have been screaming for the longest period. Finally, PVR Inox listened to the audience. So, keep raising your voice because there’s someone listening to you (points to Ajay Bijli)!”
He continued, “When I went to watch Laila Majnu on the third day of release, the posters were being pulled out. And then we went to Srinagar and saw the film running house full. And now the same is going to happen all over the country.”
