The legendary playback singer known for his soulful renditions Kumar Sanu has been making headlines not just for his melodious voice but also for his awareness and vocal nature. With a career spanning decades, Sanu has established himself as one of the most versatile and beloved singers in the Indian music industry. Recently, Sanu spoke on actors’ interference in the art of playback singing, and also get to decide who will do playback singing for them.

In an interaction with ETimes, the veteran singer stated that the singers that we have in the Hindi film industry are all very capable, but there is a lack of "great heroes". He asserted, “Our generation was lucky that we had all of the above. If our music directors today focussed less on turning towards the West and focussed more on our Indian music culture, we'd be able to better ourselves.”

He further explained, “The power should rest with the experts and not otherwise. Today, even actors are deciding which singer would do playback for them and we should get rid of this kind of interference.”

He went on to say, “Today, music has become secondary, while it used to be a priority at some point. There's so much overconfidence in contemporary filmmaking that at times they don't even consider keeping good music. That's a major reason why our industry is suffering.”

In the golden era of Bollywood music during the 80s and 90s, Kumar Sanu emerged as a prominent figure and ruled the industry. Originally known as Sanu Bhattacharya, he made his debut in 1984, but it was the music composer duo Kalyanji Anandji who suggested the name change to Kumar Sanu. Known for his versatile voice, Kumar Sanu has an impressive repertoire of nearly 21,000 songs in various languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Manipuri, Malayalam, Tamil, Punjabi, Telugu, English, and Odia, to name a few.
