Before becoming widely known for her performance as Kuku in Sacred Games, Kubbra Sait was navigating the challenges of finding opportunities in Mumbai as a newcomer. The actress recently revisited one of the earliest chapters of her career and opened up about how she landed her first film role in Ready, directed by Anees Bazmee and starring Salman Khan.
Recalling her audition process, Kubbra shared that she was extremely nervous while waiting for filmmaker Anees Bazmee’s approval. She remembered arriving for the audition wearing a short black dress, hopeful that the opportunity would work out in her favour.
Talking about the experience, Kubbra Sait shared, "This audition is the audition where I wore, like, a short black dress and waited for Anees Bazmee to walk into the office and give me a nod of approval. This was an audition where I was now going to be playing a maid in the film Ready, and I am so excited about this. The crazy self-belief I always had doing this film, because this film was a new experience for me. Like, I had never done a film. Also, did not actually have any lines in the film at all, but then, like, Salman Khan, he was like, "Why don't you make her like the maid who talks in broken language, like in broken English?"

“And Anees sir really liked the idea and that's why I have lines in the film. Every person told me I was mad, I was mental, and I was impatient for doing Sunaina Kapoor's role in Ready. But if I had not done Ready, if I were not mad enough to do Ready, I would have never been Kuku. Never say never. And there are no small roles. There are only small actors. One learning for the rest of your life. Go watch Ready, dude, it's there. It's there on Amazon Prime and all that stuff. Now go”, she added.
Kubbra further reflected on how many people around her had questioned her decision to accept a comparatively small role in a mainstream commercial entertainer. However, the actress believes that the opportunity ultimately shaped her career path and gave her valuable exposure in the industry.
Released in 2011, Ready featured Salman Khan and Asin in lead roles and went on to become one of the major commercial successes of the year. For Kubbra, the film remains a deeply personal milestone that marked the beginning of her acting journey long before her breakthrough success with Sacred Games.
