Kriti Sanon is currently enjoying the success of her latest release, Tere Ishk Mein, in which she stars alongside Dhanush. Riding high on the appreciation coming her way, the actress is now reportedly preparing for her next big project, Cocktail 2 the sequel to the beloved 2012 film that originally featured Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty. This time, Kriti steps into the franchise with Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, who also play lead roles.
Opening up about what drew her to the film, Kriti spoke to Variety and revealed the emotional exhaustion she experienced during Tere Ishk Mein. She said, “Tere Ishk Mein was so emotionally draining, it had completely emptied me emotionally. I felt I needed something light and fun, and that’s when Cocktail came my way. I thought, ‘This is it. This is the space I want to be in.’ It’s also nice to play characters that are poles apart, to not get too much of the load on you emotionally, because going back-to-back with deeply layered roles can take a toll on you."
In an insightful discussion reported by Times Now, Kriti revisited her journey of portraying one of the most emotionally layered characters of her career in Aanand L. Rai’s musical romance. Reflecting on her role, she said, “What I love about her is that she’s not perfect. She’s not your quintessential good girl. She’s flawed, as we are as human beings. And she’s extremely raw, she’s vulnerable."
Expressing her excitement about the return of romantic dramas, she added, “I’m really glad that love stories are back. I craved them. It’s my favourite genre… this year has been about love stories.”
As Kriti gears up for Cocktail 2, anticipation around the film continues to grow. Industry chatter also suggests she may soon join the cast of Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3, though no official confirmation has been made.
Meanwhile, the shoot for Cocktail 2 faced delays. The Delhi schedule, originally planned to begin on November 12, was cancelled after a bomb blast in the city. With rising pollution and increasing security concerns, the team chose to postpone filming. A source told Hindustan Times, “Shahid along with Kriti and Rashmika were supposed to come to shoot in Delhi from November 12. The makers had planned a detailed schedule in Delhi for seven days starting from November 12.”
