From facing nicknames to being bullied, Karan has often opened up about some traumatic incidents that he experienced in his childhood, which also had a major impact on his self-confidence and self-acceptance. In a recent interview, the filmmaker once again addressed the way being called nicknames like ‘pansy’ has affected him and pushed him into a shell and talked about his struggles.

In an interview titled ‘Be A Man Yaar’, Karan Johar revealed about his childhood days to host Nikhil Taneja as he said, "Today what you call ‘gay, ’fag' or ‘homo’, said in a derogatory tone, it was called pansy in those days. And, it was a word that literally, had really pushed me into a shell,” He further went on to confess about faking his love for a girl as he continued, “I pretended to be in love with a girl in the 10th standard. Her name was Shalaka.” In the same interaction, Karan also expressed his love and talked about his friendship with SRK and how the latter never judged him. “Shah Rukh Khan was the first man that didn't make me feel lesser,” added the filmmaker.

Speaking of his work commitments, Karan Johar recently returned to direction after seven years with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film is declared as a box office success with it also garnering immense love for its portrayal of some unconventional subjects. Furthermore, it also features veteran stars like Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi in lead roles, along with other actors like Kshitee Jog, Anjal Anand, Aamir Bashir, Churni Ganguly, Tota Roy Chowdhury, among others in pivotal roles. The film released on July 28.
