Readers would know that the recently released Karan Johar directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani saw a great response at the box office and how the love story won several hearts with its unconventional themes. Now, weeks after the release, Karan Johar was seen opening up about the grand success of his directorial, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and during the same, he also expressed gratitude towards many from the fraternity who extended their support in different ways and among them was the ‘Lover’ Diljit Dosanjh.

Karan Johar had earlier maintained that he wanted to make Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani as an ode of sorts to Bollywood and its music. Hence, the song features many quintessential elements of Hindi music, including bits and pieces of some popular songs. Among them is also the song ‘Lover’, sung by Diljit Dosanjh. For the unversed, this peppy Punjabi number features in the movie at a crucial point when Rocky aka Ranveer Singh and Rani aka Alia Bhatt are seen standing with their families, as they prep to live in each other’s homes to understand each other’s culture and background.

Speaking about how Diljit Dosanjh was so generous about lending the song ‘Lover’ for the film, Karan Johar had mentioned in a Sucharita Tyagi interview, saying, "I have to say, people have been so kind, like Diljit, who owns the song ‘Lover’. I was told it is ridiculously expensive. I called him and I was asking him 'Paaji mujhe ye gaana chahiye (I want this song)." He wasn't understanding at first and then I explained that I wanted to use the song in my movie, to which he gladly told me, "Aap puch bhi kyun rahe ho, haq banta hai aapka (Why are you even asking, it is your right)."

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which also starred Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Aamir Bashir, Kshitee Jog, Anjali Anand, Namit Das, Churni Ganguly, Tota Roy Chowdhury, among others in key roles, released on July 28.
