Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut recently addressed the issue of online harassment and sexism in light of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni seeking nearly Rs 90 lakh in damages over deepfake pornographic videos featuring her likeness. Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature, took to her Instagram story to share her thoughts.
In her Instagram post, Kangana expressed her views on the pervasive nature of online bullying and harassment, stating, "No woman can escape sexism, bullying, and harassment, and we think being successful is going to make us feel safe and respected. Shame."
Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister, has reportedly filed a lawsuit seeking damages over a series of deepfake pornographic videos that surfaced in 2020. According to various media reports, Meloni is scheduled to provide testimony in a court in Sassari, Italy, on July 2. Authorities are investigating a 40-year-old individual and his 73-year-old father, who are believed to be responsible for creating and distributing the videos.
The deepfake videos allegedly involved swapping Meloni's face with that of an adult film actor, raising concerns about the misuse of technology to defame and harass individuals.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut continues to make headlines for her upcoming projects. She was last seen in the film Tejas, released in October 2023. Kangana is set to star in her ambitious project, Emergency, where she will portray the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The film is slated for release in 2024. Additionally, Kangana has a biopic of Noti Binodini and a film with R Madhavan in her pipeline.
