Kangana Ranaut, the acclaimed actor, has delved into the realm of politics with fervor, contesting in the Lok Sabha elections under the banner of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh. Amidst her spirited campaign efforts, Ranaut's candid demeanor has drawn widespread attention, particularly following a recent rally speech where she boldly compared herself to the legendary Bollywood figure, Amitabh Bachchan.
“Sara desh hairaan hai, ki wo Kangana, chahe Rajasthan chali jau, chahe mai West Bengal chali jau, chahe mai Delhi chali jau, chahe mai Manipur chali jau, aisa lagta hai ki mano itna pyaar aur itna sammaan… Mein daave se keh sakti hu ke Amitabh Bachchan ji ke baad aaj kisiko industry me milta hai to wo mujhe milta hai (The whole country is surprised… whether I go to Rajasthan, West Bengal, Delhi or Manipur, it feels like there is so much love and respect. I can confidently say that after Amitabh Bachchan, if anyone gets such love and respect in the industry, it is me),” she said during the rally.

The video of her address has now gone viral, drawing a variety of opinions from netizens, with many making scathing remarks about her comparison to one of Bollywood's most respected superstars, despite her recent spate of box office disasters. “Kangana’s last hit film came in 2015 and after that she gave back-to-back 15 flops (real figure: 10). Here she is comparing herself to Amitabh Bachchan,” a verified parody account said while sharing the video on X (previously Twitter).
“Going to her speeches, Kangana Ranaut may be the first actress in the country to get national award for her role as an election candidate,” another twitter user commented.
While one user dubbed it as a “peak level of self-obsession,” another described it as the “best joke of the year,”
Meanwhile, another Twitter user responded by uploading an image carrying the title of an old news story reflecting on the abysmal box office success of Kangana's 2022 action film Dhaakad, which had turned out to be a major flop. “Dhaakad box office collection: Kangana Ranaut’s film sells 20 tickets and collects Rs 4420 on day 8,” the headline read.
The Mandi Lok Sabha constituency will vote on June 1 as part of the seventh and final phase of the 2018 general election. Ram Swaroop Sharma of the BJP won the seat in 2019. However, it fell vacant after his death in 2021. Later that year, Pratibha Singh of the Congress party reclaimed the seat in a by-election.
