Kangana Ranaut clarifies: Emergency neither shows Congress in a poor light nor will be released during 2024 Lok Sabha Elections; calls it an “ode” to Indira Gandhi

en Bollywood News Kangana Ranaut clarifies: Emergency neither shows Congress in a poor light nor will be released during 2024 Lok Sabha Elections; calls it an “ode” to Indira Gandhi

Kangana Ranaut will be seen playing the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, in the upcoming film Emergency.

Actress Kangana Ranaut has refuted allegations that her upcoming film Emergency is intended to portray the Congress party negatively or that its release is timed to coincide with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In response to questions about the film's timing, Ranaut argued that judging a person should be based on their actions, not their words.

"If you want to know a person, then go for his actions and not his words. You watch the film. The film will be released but I am not sure if it will be released around the elections. It has nothing to do with elections and any political party," Ranaut said in a recent interview with Times Now Navbharat.

The Queen actress further added, “I would also like to say that it is also an ode to our prime minister, who has been elected three times. It is her life story, whatever good and bad she did. Like I said, a woman is representative in her own right. But to already assume that I have favoured a (political party), this is a wrong perception.”

Ranaut also spoke about how Indira Gandhi was bullied by former US President Richard Nixon. "I researched Indira Gandhi when I worked on her biopic. I found out how she was bullied by Richard Nixon. He said bad things about her in the media and bullied her a lot. But now, with violence and only with love, PM Modi is literally holding the torch of humanity. We Indians feel so proud," she said.

Ranaut, who is also directing Emergency, will play the role of Indira Gandhi. The film's cast also includes Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, the late Satish Kaushik, and Shreyas Talpade. Emergency is scheduled for release on November 24, 2023.
