Taking to social media, Kamal Haasan shared a montage featuring behind-the-scenes stills and on-set moments from Chachi 420. The visuals included the actor in both his original appearance and the much-loved ‘Chachi’ avatar, which became one of the most memorable aspects of the film. Alongside the video, he captioned, “स्थायी गायिका सखी जागो #AshaBhosle. (English translation)”, expressing his tribute to the late singer.

Released in 1997, Chachi 420 was a Hindi remake of the 1996 Tamil film Avvai Shanmugi (also the remake of the 1993 Hollywood film Mrs. Doubtfire), starring Kamal Haasan as the lead in both languages. The film followed the story of a father who disguises himself as an elderly woman in order to stay close to his daughter after a separation from his wife. Blending comedy with emotional undertones, the film went on to become a popular family entertainer, remembered for Kamal Haasan’s transformative performance and engaging narrative. Asha Bhosle too played a key role in enhancing the film’s musical appeal, lending her voice to multiple tracks in its Hindi album.

Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital. According to official statements, she had been admitted the previous evening after experiencing severe exhaustion and a chest infection. Despite receiving treatment from a specialised medical team, her condition worsened due to age-related complications, ultimately leading to multi-organ failure.

Her last rites were performed with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai, where members of the film fraternity, political leaders, and fans gathered to pay their respects.

Beyond Kamal Haasan, several prominent figures from the South Indian film industry have also shared their condolences, acknowledging Asha Bhosle’s contribution to Indian music and cinema across languages.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s tribute, anchored in memories from Chachi 420, reflects the enduring collaborations that defined Asha Bhosle’s legacy—one that continues to resonate across generations and film industries.
