National Award-winning actor Manasi Parekh, known for her work in films like URI: The Surgical Strike and popular Gujarati titles such as Golkeri, Kutch Express, Shubhchintak, Maharani and Misri, is set to be seen in Netflix’s upcoming original series Chumbak.
What has caught attention, however, is the unusual way Manasi was offered the project. During a large-scale Navratri event attended by nearly 30,000 people, Manasi and her husband Parthiv Gohil were performing as singers when JD Majethia, the producer of Chumbak, made an unexpected announcement on stage.
“National Award winner Manasi will be seen in Hats Off Productions’ new show on Netflix. Even Manasi didn’t know about this until now,” JD announced, leaving the actor visibly stunned. Her spontaneous reaction quickly became the highlight of the evening, drawing loud cheers and applause from the audience.
Chumbak is described as a slice-of-life neighbourhood comedy and features an ensemble cast, including Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Amyra Dastur, Anant V Joshi, Sumeet Vyas, Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Sumeet Raghavan and Sandeepa Dhar, among others. The series is being produced by JD Majethia under his banner Hats Off Productions and is written and directed by Aatish Kapadia.
