Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor, a self-proclaimed cricket fan, recently praised the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for their impressive run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Despite their eliminator round defeat to the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kapoor acknowledged RCB's journey from underdogs to strong contenders.

Janhvi initially supported the Mumbai Indians (MI) due to her hometown connection. However, she expressed her current allegiance with both MI and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) eliminated. Having witnessed Virat Kohli's exceptional performance in the eliminator, Kapoor admired the "reinvention of his game".

She asserted, “The way RCB from being underdog they made their mark in the IPL. However, we all wanted them to win, but unfortunately, it didn't happen.”

Balancing Cricket Fandom and Film Promotions 

The 27-year-old actress, currently promoting her upcoming film Mr and Mrs Mahi alongside Rajkummar Rao, revealed a connection to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).  Her film's coach, Abhishek Nayar, has a past association with KKR, influencing her support for the team in the IPL finals.

Janhvi Kapoor Undergoes Rigorous Training for Mr and Mrs Mahi Role 

While discussing the film, Janhvi shed light on her demanding physical transformation to portray a cricketer's wife. This involved intense strength training, a strict low-carb diet, and rigorous cricket practice sessions with KKR players, lasting five to six hours daily.

She said, “I wasn't very radiant while shooting for this film. When I started preparing for this film, I was promoting Good Luck Jerry. I was possibly shooting for Mili and I was about 8-9 kilos heavier. Sharan was very stressed and told me that I didn't look like a cricketer. He said if I really wanted to do this film, I needed to start losing weight and begin cricket training.”

Directed by Sharan Sharma, Mr and Mrs Mahi marks Kapoor's second collaboration with the director after Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.  The film reunites her with Ruhi co-star Rajkummar Rao and releases in theatres on May 31, 2024.
