The film, which hit the screens on December 5, has dominated IMAX screens across the country, resulting in the postponement of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar re-release in India. This led to a wave of backlash from some fans, who were upset about the Hollywood film being pushed back. Amidst the controversy, actress Janhvi Kapoor stepped in to defend the film and questioned the mindset of those criticizing the situation.

Janhvi Kapoor's Thoughtful Commentary on Cinema

Janhvi took to Instagram to address the ongoing debate. She commented on a post by Tatva India, which discussed the public outcry over the re-release of Interstellar being delayed. In her message, Janhvi questioned why people are so quick to discredit Indian cinema while celebrating Western films. She pointed out, “Pushpa 2 is also cinema. Why are we so obsessed with idolising the west and running down things that come out of our own country and instantly disqualifying it from being considered as worthy?”

Janhvi went on to explain how the world appreciates India's rooted stories and larger-than-life tone, which have made Indian cinema globally admired. Yet, she lamented that many in India still seem embarrassed by the very characteristics that make Indian films unique. She wrote, “The same rooted representation and larger-than-life tone other countries appreciate and are fascinated by in our cinema, we ourselves are embarrassed of. Sad.”
