en Bollywood News “Ikkis is a love letter to peace”: Karan Johar lauds Dharmendra and Agastya Nanda’s performances in emotional review note

Just days after its theatrical release on January 1, 2026, Ikkis has found a strong and vocal admirer in filmmaker Karan Johar. Taking to his social media handle on January 5, Johar shared an emotional and detailed review of the film, praising its storytelling, performances, and quiet emotional impact.

Sharing his thoughts, Johar wrote, “IKKIS is a love letter to peace… an honestly and earnestly told story about the absolute redundancy of war….i was so moved by so many moments of the film … it silently screams … and that’s where Sriram Raghavan gets it so right…”

He went on to single out the performances that left a lasting impression on him, beginning with Dharmendra, for whom Ikkis marks his final film appearance. “I was moist eyed everytime Dharamji was on screen…. He has the most towering screen presence and yet can be so gentle and your heart goes out to his immensely dignified portrayal of a grieving father ….”

Johar also lauded Jaideep Ahlawat, calling him an actor who consistently delivers with restraint and strength. “@jaideepahlawat proves time and again what an outstanding force of nature he is…he is ROCK SOLID!!” A significant portion of Johar’s review focused on Agastya Nanda, who makes his big-screen debut with Ikkis after appearing in The Archies. Playing the role of 21-year-old Arun Khetarpal, Agastya received strong words of encouragement from the filmmaker.

“Agastya Nanda is OUTSTANDING as the 21 year old Arun Khetarpal… his endearing innocence, silent resolve and eventual climax break out proves his metal as an artist… was so proud and excited to see him emerge as such a sincere and solid actor… can’t wait to see his journey unfold…”

The film also marks the acting debut of Simar Bhatia, niece of actor Akshay Kumar, adding another fresh face to the cast.

A Different Take on the War Genre

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Ikkis presents a restrained and reflective approach to the war genre. Johar acknowledged this creative choice while applauding the film’s producers. “Kudos to Dinoo and @maddockfilms for supporting this brave and new take on a war film…. Please go watch this gem of a true story….#ikkis.”

Originally slated for a December 25, 2025, release, Ikkis was later pushed to January 1, 2026. The decision was influenced by the strong box office momentum of Dhurandhar and the release of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which is backed by Johar’s own production banner, Dharma Productions.
