“I’d love to work with Ajay Devgn” – Mahie Gill: Part 2

Mahie Gill

So here’s Mahie Gill’s wish list – Working with Ajay Devgn, Imtiaz Ali, Madhur Bhandarkar, travelling to Kerela and Ireland and drinking that famous Irish stout called Guiness and the most important wish – her big dream that she still hasn’t seen. It’s hard to believe Mahie feels invisible with all her larger than life wish list. Her presence cuts through the atmosphere without her saying anything. She’s fiery but not immediately warm. So it’s only after spending a good hour with her she opens up and talks about her many passions including cooking, and there’s no doubt that Mahie Gill is a one off. UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama‘s London correspondent brings you the many lives and loves of Mahie Gill in the final part of this Bollywood Hungama exclusive!

“Jimmy is a great actor who hasn’t got his due so far”
I just feel that Jimmy Sheirgill is a very talented actor but sadly he hasn’t got his due so far. That’s my opinion. But if it has got to do with his luck at the box office, well, the film has to work. Jimmy is a very calm and a quiet person. He keeps to himself but that’s his nature.

“I had a fight with Randeep Hooda. He is a brat”
Randeep on the other hand is a ‘moohfat’ who doesn’t talk to the hand but to your mouth (laughs). But honestly, he has a clean heart. You know what? I had a fight with Randeep in the beginning. I’ve never had a fight with anyone in my life and this had to be the first (laughs). If anyone starts bad mouthing me then I withdraw myself from that person. But the more I started to work with him I realised that he sometimes does it deliberately and then again I think – no he doesn’t. He is quite a brat!

“I’m so happy that my film Michael is selected at this years TIFF”
I’m lucky that I’m working with good actors and I’m so happy that my film Michael is selected for this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. It’s mainly Naseeruddin Shah‘s story whose name is Michael. I play a nurse in Kolkata. The film is based in Kolkata. I may not be attending the festival as I will have to be promoting my film Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster in Mumbai. I wish luck to the entire team of Michael.

“Before the film commenced, many told me that Deepak and I were a complete mismatch”
Many of my friends and colleagues told me that Deepak and I were a complete mismatch. But then it depends on the actor’s performance. An actor’s strength is not his looks but his acting and Deepak has overpowered his acting in Not A Love Story. He is one of our industry’s finest actors.

“The vital question I ask before signing a film is – Will my film see the release date?”

I am not intelligent when it comes to scripts. I cannot predict after reading it whether the film will work or not. No one can. There are certain scripts where I decide carefully. Like in the case of Michael, I selected it because I knew that Naseer sir had already signed it which means that the script has to be good for an actor like him to come on board. Dev D and Gulaal happened by sheer luck but Not A Love Story happened due to my earlier films and my performances in them. I’d love to work with new directors and one of the most important things that I ask is – will the film see the light of the day? Will it release after our four months of hard work put in? Touchwood so far all of them have released and released well.

“I’d love to work with Ajay Devgn as people think my eyes have the same intensity as his”
My favourite actors are Kamal Hassan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgn. A lot of people have told me that when it comes to the intensity, my eyes portray the same just like Ajay Devgn’s eyes do. I really want to work with Ajay one day. I’m looking forward to that day. My favourite films are Lamhe, Mr India, Guide and Rangeela. I like ‘love stories’ and that too of a different kind.

“Travelling and cooking gives me a high”
I am a complete traveller. I love road trips. If you find my house you’ll definitely find a backpack. I love Kerala. That’s my favourite destination for travel in India and then I like Ireland. Though I haven’t had the famous Guiness beer there but will definitely try one day. I love cooking and that too gives me a high.
