“I aspire to be like Kareena Kapoor” – Amy Jackson

I always get excited talking to someone from Britain especially when that someone is a Liverpool fan. But when I figured out that Amy Jackson is from Liverpool, I had to get my excitement out, and so I did. And it was so but obvious that the first question had to be about the red jersey with number 8 printed on the back, I mean Steven Gerrard. But what's striking in our entire conversation is Amy Jackson's cute and sweet 'scoucer' accent. Yes, it was a delight to talk to the Miss Teen World and what a journey it must've been for this lass from Liverpool to Bollywood. And even though I haven't met this pretty damsel, one thing's certain - this weekend will be one dreamy affair, I'm sure! Presenting you Amy Jackson on Steven Gerrard, Prateik, Gautham Menon, Kareena Kapoor and why she is keen on making it big in Bollywood.

I am a big Liverpool fan and so are you, aren't you? It's good to be talking to someone from Liverpool. Bring it on Brit!
Yea, Bring it on Brit (laughs). It's sad to be away but happy to be talking to you, especially when you are a Liverpool fan. All I've met in India are Manchester United fans and Chelsea fans. I am a huge Liverpool fan. We love Steven Gerrard, don't we?

Instead of making your debut in a Bollywood movie, you debuted down South. How weird!
How very interesting, isn't it? (laughs). I started off pretty abrupt to be honest. It's a little bit of a whirlwind. I did a Tamil movie when I was just seventeen. To be making a debut in South Indian movie was unexpected but to be landing in Bollywood is a shocker. It still hasn't sunk in yet and I love every moment of it.

Did you know how big Bollywood was before you stepped in? Ever heard of any stars out here?
Bollywood is huge all over the world. Everyone is aware of this film industry. I was always a big fan of Aishwarya Rai when I was modelling and knew she was from India. So I knew she was working in Bollywood but never knew how it functioned till I came here and worked in movies. I actually love Celebrity Big Brother and was a fan of Shilpa Shetty too. The way she kept her head high inside the house was amazing.

Are you a true romantic Amy?
I am not a hopeless romantic. My favourite movies are The Notebook and Titanic. These are on top of my list. Ekk Deewana Tha is quite a real love story. It's believable, seriously. A perfect love story is how I put the movie as. Ekk Deewana Tha is a perfect launch pad for me. I couldn't have asked for more. The music of my movie to be composed by Oscar winning music director A.R Rahman is unbelievable. Ekk Deewana Tha is a movie that touches my heart.

How romantic is Prateik?
Prateik is like any twenty to twenty five year old boy. He is romantic but it may sound like an oxymoron. I'm not sure if the guys are on the same line as the girls are when it comes to romance. But Prateik plays a romantic hero in the movie and who knows he too may come across a not a hopeless romantic in the real life.

Coming from England, don't you fancy working with Guy Ritchie or Danny Boyle?
As much as I'd love to work with Guy Ritchie and Danny Boyle, I'd say that I am completely dedicated to movies in India. Bollywood is completely my concentration right now. Having said that, I'd love to work with Kareena Kapoor. She is somebody I'd aspire to be like. I've been given the Bollywood study of DVDs, the top 25 Bollywood movies to watch. That's when I saw Jab We Met and since then I am a huge fan of Kareena.

How was it to work Gautham Menon? Your first movie in Bollywood and his second.
Right said! Gautham Menon as a director is calm and collective. He will never lose his temper. He is very open minded and likes to go with his gut and instinct. It's nice to work with someone who gives you space too. He gets into the character so much that he knows my character more than I do (laughs).

Let's end this in a clichÃ© way - How difficult was it to play Jessie in Ekk Deewana Tha?
(laughs) That's not clichÃ©. It was difficult because the role I play of Jessie in Ekk Deewana Tha is a completely different girl than what I am. She is an orthodox Christian. She doesn't party nor socialise and for her, watching movies and falling in love are completely taboo. She is very reserved and that's when she meets Sachin played by Prateik and the romance begins and their difficulties too.
