Emraan-Abhay’s Shanghai on ‘rethink’ mode

Dreams of Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol to make a date with audience on Republic Day had been quashed. Originally slated to arrive day before yesterday (26th January), the film now continues to wait for its arrival in theatres.

"It is disappointing that Shanghai hasn't released as planned", comments an industry insider, "The kind of topical theme that it boasts of where it hits hard on the issue of corruption, Shanghai is director Dibakar Banerjee's dream project. He really wanted it to come on Republic Day since that would have gone well with the film's marketing and promotional plan as well."

However, announcement from Karan Johar around Agneepath led to some rethinking due to which producers PVR Pictures decided to reschedule the film's arrival. The film's release now finds itself in a quandary since there is no new date announced yet.

"The film's shoot is complete but there are other factors to be looked at", comments a trade expert, "Emraan's Jannat 2 and Raaz 3 are scheduled in May and August respectively. Makers of Shanghai have to now work around these months. However, Emraan would be wary if the film comes anywhere in between since it would be impossible to promote three films back to back. However, there is no issue expected from Abhay's end since he hasn't signed too many projects and is relatively available."

For Dibakar, it would be quite some thinking to do now. Though it is being speculated whether he would be eyeing Independence Day arrival now, the fact that Jannat 2 is confirmed for August means there is no possibility around that either.
