Gumraah actor Deepak Kalra talks about being paid Rs. 750 in Rockstar as a junior artist 750 : Bollywood News

Deepak Kalra will be making his big debut with the film Gumraah featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur. He plays the childhood friend of Aditya in the film and goes by the name of 'Chaddi'. He helps the lead character in the cons and defines the story of Ronnie in the film. Starting off his career as a junior artist, Kalra recently opened up climbing up the ladder and bagging his role in the Thadam remake.

He shared about his days as a junior artist and said, "I began my career as a junior artist in the film Rockstar. I was paid Rs. 750 for that gig. All I ever wanted was to reach the big screen. When a coordinator called me for the Rockstar shoot, my mother and I were so happy as if I was offered the lead role." Deepak continued to look for work in films and got his next break in Pulkit Samrat's debut film Bittoo Boss. On the other hand, while he was working on television commercials and advertisements along with small roles, he was looking for meatier work and it took him a decade to land his first hit series Guilty Minds.

Deepak also revealed that the megastar Shahrukh Khan played a big role in his life. Shahrukh's Delhi boy character of Gaurav was inspired by Deepak. The actor says, "His accent and way of talking was all me. Shahrukh sir many times in his interview mentioned me and called me on stage and it was then when media started to give me attention".

The actor shared that when he came to Mumbai for the first time after his first gig in movies, He took a rickshaw ride directly to Shahrukh Khan's house to get a glimpse of his house. He also opened up on his surreal experience of how he visited Mannat when he was new to the city and eight years later he was invited by Khan to his home for helping him in the film Fan.

Deepak has worked as a junior artist in many films like Rockstar, Bitto Boss, and Jai Mummy Di. He got his big break in the web show Guilty Minds, released in the year 2022, He played the reel son of the late actor Satish Kaushik in the series.

As for his film Gumraah, it features Aditya Roy Kapur in double role whereas Mrunal Thakur essays the role of a cop. It is slated to release on April 7 2023.
