“Govinda was shy around girls, Akshay Kumar had multiple girlfriends,” reveals their co-star Guddi Maruti

Veteran actress Guddi Maruti, known for her comedic roles in Bollywood, recently shared her memories of working with two of the industry's iconic actors, Govinda and Akshay Kumar. Speaking to YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Guddi, 63, highlighted the contrasting personalities of the two stars, revealing that Govinda was exceptionally shy around women, while Akshay was notably flirtatious on set.

Govinda's Shyness and Focus on Work

Reflecting on Govinda’s dedication, Guddi Maruti explained how committed he was to his craft, rarely paying attention to anything other than his work. She shared, “All the heroes were chalu (clever), but not Govinda. He used to stay so busy with his work. We would say, ‘Chi Chi, even if a girl walks in front of you in a bikini, you wouldn’t notice her. You would only notice her smile and nothing else.’”

Akshay Kumar’s Playful Side and Past Relationships

In contrast, Guddi described Akshay Kumar as a "mastikhor" (playful) personality who was friendly and flirtatious. Guddi, who shared screen space with Akshay in films like Khiladi, Sainik, and Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, recalled, “Kaafi girlfriends thi uski (He had many girlfriends). I know of his two or three lovely girlfriends, but I can’t say how many more he dated.” Guddi clarified, however, that Akshay was never involved with multiple women at the same time, though he was often considered a heartbreaker.

She shared how Akshay appeared to be innocent on the surface but was known for his romantic escapades, saying, “He would act so naive, but later we heard so many stories about him.”

Memories of On-Set Romances and Discreet Relationships

Guddi Maruti also provided a glimpse into the film industry’s atmosphere in the 90s, recalling how actors and actresses would often keep their relationships hidden. “We would often learn who was seeing whom during film shoots, as they would sneak into each other’s rooms. Achha, raat ko ye ho raha tha? (Oh, so this was happening at night?),” she said, describing how relationships would unfold discreetly on set.

Guddi also remembered that some actors would even complain to her if an actress’s mother was present on set, as it would hinder their romance. “Roz uth ke aa jate hain set pe” (She comes to set every day), actors would tell her, frustrated by the mothers’ protective presence. Guddi would humorously respond, ‘Beti ko bacha rahi hai woh’ (She is protecting her daughter).

Starting her career as a child artist at the age of 10, Guddi Maruti went on to star in several memorable Bollywood films, including Khiladi, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aashik Aawara, Dulhe Raja, and Biwi No. 1.
