In an episode of The Filmy Hustle, hosted by distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, Mandavi Sharma of Tree-Shul Media Solutions, and who has worked as Shah Rukh Khan’s publicist, and Gautam Thakker of Everymedia shared their behind-the-scenes experiences in the world of content marketing. They opened up about the philanthropic side of Bollywood celebrities and how they refuse to speak about it.
Gautam Thakker said, “I can give you a hundred examples, but I don’t want to embarrass anybody. But our actors have the habit of not talking about the good that they do. I can personally vouch that the amount of stuff that Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar do for their fans is immense. They don’t even talk about their charitable activities. You have no idea how much money these people are spending right now for the good of our country. I know of 10 things that have happened during COVID for which I have nothing but deep admiration for these two stars.”
Mandavi Sharma remarked, “It’s great that they are not talking about it. It’s a very dignified thing to do.”
Gautam Thakker added, “Most of our A-listers are dignified. If you attack them, they maintain a dignified silence. They do the same thing when they do good.”
At another point in the interview, Mandavi Sharma said, “While working with SRK, we have had enough incidents where we could have immediately rebutted a lot of things or come up with a statement that ‘The news being carried is false’. But he has always said, ‘(Let's wait for the) right time and let’s see the limits’, that is, at what point does ethics outweigh the urge to sell news?”
Meanwhile, at the very beginning, she revealed, “The man (Shah Rukh Khan) is a rockstar of a boss. So, it was a blessing to have him as my first boss when I switched gears.”
