Actor Fatima Sana Shaikh has shared a candid take on romantic relationships in the digital age, saying she finds it hard to embrace the uncertainty and delayed communication that old-school courtship once required.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan India, the 34-year-old reflected on how contemporary dating, shaped by constant connectivity, has changed her outlook on love and patience.Describing how traditional romance once involved waiting and hope, Fatima said that “If someone has ghosted you in that world, there’s hope and faith they’ll come back… I don’t think I have that suspension of belief,” adding with a laugh that she is “too impatient” to wait for someone’s return in an era of instant messaging and constant online availability.
Fatima, while contrasting old-school romance with today’s hyper-connected world, pointed out how communication expectations have completely changed. She said that in earlier times, people had patience to wait, but now that seems difficult because everyone is constantly reachable. She admitted, “I’m too impatient for that world.”
Talking about what she values in a relationship today, Fatima emphasised that she looks for deeper compatibility over surface-level attraction. She shared that for her, a partner should be someone she can truly connect with mentally and emotionally. She also stressed the importance of shared understanding and lifestyle alignment, especially when it comes to travel and spending quality time together.
On the work front, Fatima continues to be part of projects that explore relationships and modern-day dynamics. She will be seen in films like Metro…In Dino and Aap Jaisa Koi, both of which revolve around human emotions and contemporary love stories.
